Effects
of Trauma on Women
When
one experiences a traumatic life event the very foundations of one's
belief in the world and the self are shattered. The world becomes
a scary place and the self cannot be trusted to judge what situations
and people are safe to associate with.
From
this place of fear develop isolation and loneliness that lead to
depression and feelings of personal incompetence that provide messages
like:
"Will
another terrible event happen to me if I venture out?"
"If
I couldn't keep myself safe, if I made the decision to trust this
person and was betrayed then how can I trust any decisions I make?"
Have
you experienced a traumatic event such as an accident?
Were
you abused or neglected by a trusted person during child or adulthood?
Are
you isolated and alone in keeping the secrets of your past?
Do
you experience flashbacks of a traumatic event(s)?
Do
you feel like you are detached from your daily life, in a dream-like
state?
Fear
and isolation give the trauma continuing control over your life.
You
don't have to be alone any longer.
